Before commencing the therapy, we would meet for an initial meeting to identify which types of approaches would be helpful, and to estimate the time frame for the work. The goals and outcomes will be different for each person, but we would work on better understanding and making sense of what has been happening, then work towards your goals using the therapy approaches we have agreed. Sessions are usually once a week, but some people may prefer to meet every couple of weeks.
I offer brief and longer term therapy with most people needing between eight and twelve, although this varies with some people needing more sessions and some people requiring less. We would use the best approach, or combination of approaches for you, such as CBT, EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Ego State Therapy and Clinical Hypnosis. In my experience, all these approaches work as well online, enabling people to work flexibly from across the UK including the areas of Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Online therapy is an effective and convenient option, offering flexibility and accessibility while maintaining the therapeutic relationship and effectiveness of traditional in-person therapy. It is possible to engage in all the treatments that we would work with if we were meeting in person, including EMDR and CBT.
Clinical Psychologists have extensive training in the assessment and treatment of psychological difficulties. After a degree in Psychology they complete an Doctorate level training in Clinical Psychology. They complete a broad and in-depth clinical training in the understanding and treatment of psychological difficulties from childhood onwards and work within a range of NHS settings. This enables them to adapt and tailor therapeutic work to best meet the needs of a wide range of individuals. This may involve integrating different approaches, such a creating a treatment plan which includes EMDR, CBT or other therapies.
